Offering arguably the best skiing in Austria, the resorts of Lech and Zurs are situated in the Arlberg ski area near to the German border, with Zurich to the west and Innsbruck to the east. The ski area is shared between Lech and Zurs and is commonly known as the ‘St Moritz of Austria’, but without the glitz and glamour.

Zurs is an elegant and sophisticated resort set over 1.5kms and dominated by the typical white stucco Vorarlberger buildings, featuring carved wooden balconies. In contrast, Lech is a 14th century village spread over a wide picture-postcard area of grassy slopes punctured by sharp ravines and set in a beautifully wooded valley. Most of the accommodations centre around 4 and 5 star hotels, with the odd 3 star thrown in.

One hundred and fourty kilometres of groomed slopes cater mainly for beginner and intermediate skiers, however, there is a further 300kms of on and off-piste runs offering advanced adventurers more of a challenge. This includes, on the same Arlberg ski pass the next town over the mountain, St Anton, where the more adventurous can sample some of Austrias best slope challenges and off piste skiing, not to mention a rather lively nightlife.

Lech may cater for the novice and improving skier, but it also offers plenty for the expert, hence Lech is a great resort for families, who dont want a boistrous nightlife, but want fun together as a family in particularly attractive and scenic surroundings.Party animals would be better off in St Anton. The ski pistes, ski routes and open slopes are spread between 1,450m and 2,800m above sea level, so its pretty snow sure all season. 83 Cable cars, chairlifts and drag lifts whisk winter guests to some of the most beautiful slopes in Austria. With 180kms of groomed runs, and 120kms of off-piste runs, there is plenty of variety for every skier, so check it out as soon as you can.Lech and Zurs are also twinned with Beaver Creek in Colorado.

There are 3 ski schools in Lech with 300 instructors. The slopes are wide and there are great family trips to make. Also very comfortable are the heated seats in the chairlifts. The ski resorts of Lech and Zürs are linked to each other. St Anton is connected by a free ski bus (15 minutes). Please note that these buses can be crowded, especially in the afternoon, so make sure you are on time to take the bus back from the last lift in St Anton.....Check the ski school : http://www.skischule-lech.at
