Ischgl is a very popular choice being relatively snow sure and has a large ski area to compete with the largest areas in France. Secondly it also has a pretty picture postcard town full of attractive hotels and homes and has a tax free area called Samnaun to ski, shuttle or taxi over too for any retail therapy!! Plus its easy to get to from Innsbruck or Munich. Residents call it the "White Winter Dream" providing a haven for schnapps - fuelled adrenalin seeking junkies from all over the world. There is no doubt the skiing is world class and ideal for all levels of ability and families but where the resort really excels is after the skiing ends, or slightly before when the town vibrates with music and laughter enhancing its reputation as “Ibiza on Ice”… the evening entertainment and apres ski is infectious and its really not easy to stop yourself strutting your stuff to some engaging music in live music bars or DJ"s playing the “golden oldies” with the Kitzloch bar leading the way with loud music, steins of beer and jagertee. Most of the accommodation centres around the hotels with a number of apartments and self catered properties, with very few catered chalets but if coming on a low budget really I would think again as there are cheaper options in other resorts.That being said if you are happy commuting by the excellent and free shuttle service, then the villages of Mathon and Kappl (with its own small ski area) are very good alternatives for those wanting to save a few Euros whilst still being able to enjoy the skiing and the awesome apres ski of Ischgl.
