Chalet de Jollys, Morillon, France
Description
Morillon village has its own nursery slopes and normally you can ski back to the village. The main skiing area starts at Morillon 1100 (Les Esserts), which can be reached by fast gondola, with the snow record of Morillon 1100 being generally good and well above other resorts at a similar altitude. Snow cannons allow a useful top-up early and late season (from mid-April). There’s some delightful tree-line skiing at lower levels in Morillon – ideal for bad weather conditions!
Thanks to its unique geographical location, the Grand Massif enjoys abundant, regular snowfalls throughout the season, and the area is well known for its snow quality in spring. Of course, 80% of the slopes are north-facing, allowing the snow to lie for longer and remain in good condition.
The village’s own complex of nine lifts are directly linked to Flaine, Samoens and Les Carroz with some really good runs for all abilities. Arguably some journalists have described this as the best ski area in France but only choose Morillon if partying after skiing is not in your remit!! Its relatively quiet but with enough bars and restaurants to give you a good choice once the lifts have closed. Consequently there are limited queues even over peak weeks.
This fabulous ski chalet is in a great location in Morillon village, on Rue du Jollys, just 300m from the lift and 150m from restaurants, bars and a great bakery, where you can pick up your fresh croissants and baguettes every morning. And after a day’s skiing, you can return to your chalet to work out in the gym, or chill out in the sauna or the games room.
The chalet has a cosy seating area with a large sofa, chairs and bean bags around a woodburning stove. There’s even a bar, where you can get together for a drink before dinner. There’s also a petanque piste and a table tennis table for some fun and rivalry.
The large kitchen is open plan, and has all the equipment you need to cook tempting dishes and there’s plenty of room to enjoy it at the large dining table. Doors open from this area onto the lovely sunny terrace, where you can enjoy a barbecue, soak up any sun or just admire the stunning mountain views.
There are four bedrooms – two doubles, a large double, and a room with bunk beds and a single bed – and three bathrooms. The games room is always popular with younger visitors – they can enjoy a game of pool, darts and table football or just curl up with a book from the library. Those looking to keep in shape will appreciate the gym, with a weights bench, rowing machine, exercise bike and elliptical trainer with satellite TV and WiFi to also keep you occupied. So why not check it out and see why so many keep returning!
