La Clusaz is a pretty and traditional mountain village with more than 125km of pistes, with a ski bus link to neighbouring Grand Bornand offering a further 85km of pistes, all on the same ski pass and part of the Aravis ski area. The region is suited to all levels of skiers from beginners to experts and is an ideal family option.
The La Clusaz actually has some of the best snow conditions in France, with the Aravis mountains forming the first ‘natural barrier’ to the Alps and so capturing much of the precipitation, enhancing the snowfall. Most of the ski area lifts start from the village so a car is not normally needed here, though it’s a great choice to drive to, being so close to Geneva.
The skiing is divided into five sections – Beauregard, l’Aiguille, Balme, l’Etale and Crioux-Fry/Merdassier. Most of the runs are west or north-west facing, so the snow is generally relatively good all season, with best snow found on the west-facing slopes of La Balme. Accommodation options are very good in La Clusaz, from a number of good quality catered and self-catered apartments and chalets, through to hotel options, mostly close to the pistes, with a good selection of bars and restaurants. There is also a good and efficient shuttle system here if your accommodation is away from the slopes.
