Resort Info – Tignes

Tignes and Val d’Isère, formally known as the Espace Killy area, are located in the Tarentaise area in the Northern French Alps. Tignes consists of a number of villages including Tignes la Lac, Tignes Val Claret, Tignes Lavachet, Tignes les Brevieres and Tignes 1800. From Tignes you are connected to Val d’Isere offering a total over 300km of pistes. The Tignes-Val d’Isere ski area is one of Europe’s premier ski resorts, with its variety of ski terrain, easy ski access and excellent and modern lift system. Tignes villages are more purpose-built villages, so some lack the more traditional charm enjoyed by others, but the variety of chalets, hotels and apartments to suit almost any budget, with many ski in ski out options, more than makes up for that.

Tignes

Tignes offers a good sized and high-altitude ski area with one of the best and reliable snow records in France, being open almost all year, thanks to the La Grande Motte Glacier and the fact that it backs onto the peaks of the Italy and where you can ski the glacier in summer. Tignes is an excellent and snow sure choice for everyone, from complete beginners to those wanting to sample the awesome off piste and especially a great choice for early and late season ski holidays.

The Grande Motte glacier is reached via a funicular railway and cable car from Val Claret which takes experts as well as intermediates to the panoramic platform at 3030m within just a few minutes. At the top you will find a panoramic restaurant with the most stunning views, fabulous piste options. The cable car will then take you higher still to 3456m. Once there you can enjoy a pleasurable run to Tignes les Brevières and simply soak up those views. Any non skiers with you can enjoy all the viewpoints too on the glacier.

Tignes Val Claret links you over by lift to the Val d’Isere area and generally is the liveliest part of Tignes for apres ski together with Tignes la Lac. Tignes les Brevieres and Tignes 1800 are quieter and as such are generally better for families unless easier access for Val d’Isere is required. Accommodation choices are quite plentiful from hotels and apartments to catered and self catered chalets mostly at reasonable prices. We can also arrange transfers from any airport if not driving here as well as discounted ski hire.
